A quick weekend summary is starting… now!

I’m on fire with emissaries :) The chase to Exalted is very exciting, and I think I’m gonna be there by the end of May. Then I could split my toons into teams and slowly farm the chests for faction mounts.

I’m not doing Broken Shore dailies except main story quests. Micromantica will hit Exalted and more when the storyline will be complete with not a single extra WQ in Broken Shore. The other toons are now bound in Sentinax part.

I’ve did at least one invasion on every toon, and I have Cathedral dungeon to run yet on two toons – for the quest.

All in all I plan Broken Shore to be my relaxed activity between raids in June.

Mogging

Suddenly I’ve realized that The Nighthold’s class mogging set could – and should – be composed of both Emerald Nightmare and The Nighthold itself. And what is better: I could farm for certain items on several toons of the same armor type. For example, my demon hunter lacks wrists, so my monk, druid, rogue and demon hunter would run the same boss – which makes it 8 attempts if you count coin tosses too.

So, the last cooldown was dedicated to leather & mail toons, and this week it’s gonna be the same. When I’m done with them, then cloth and plate toons come into action.

I’ve realized that I don’t need the set bonuses or gearing up. I’m more than ready for the next LFR with my 860-880+ ilvls, so it’s just hungry wardrobe that makes me run these raids :)

Talking about mogging, there’s a brand new armory which you have probably checked out already.

It makes perfect sense to enhance the class rather than race. Many people prefer to play just elves, or mostly tauren, or humans, or gnomes of course. But people mostly roll a new toon to try a new class, so here’s variety for you.

I’ve checked out every armory of course as I have every class. My personal favorites are monk, shaman – and I could never believe it – the fel colors of demon hunter.

Profession Bonanza

It’s Darkmoon Faire, and it was time to revise the mats I’ve collected during the month and level up.

I’ve led toons through many dungeons on profession quests – the long forgotten ones. Obviously I’ve done profession quests in DMF. And I’ve spent enormous amounts of mats, mercilessly for raising my skill level.

I got Resourceful, Working the Isles, and Legion Cook achievements.

What is left is First Aid – which is a separate thing. And there’s Blacksmith to do to get Legion Master of All. It’s only 5 points to go, and what do I need: Mindebad is less than 1k from Exalted with Valar’jar – who will grant her the next stars – which will allow to go through those 5 points :)

My profession goals today are learning as much schemes and recipes as I can, craft whatever mogging, toys and stuff, and have a rest. I love crafting, but it’s been awful in Legion. I want to end it, and I see the finish line.

Side Quests: Yes or Not?

I’ve realized today that I will cover the side questlines on my toons.

There are several benefits coming out of it.

  • First of all, some of them grant you reputation, and a good chunk of it.
  • Second, it’s extra benefits: for example, it’s AP items, cooking recipes, or even the fact that kobold community in Highmountain would be neutral to you ever since.
  • Third, I’m a completionist :)

So, let’s list the side questlines that don’t count into Loremaster achievement. I list the ones that I know of, please add more in the comments!

The Coming Week Trivia

This time my trivia would be devoted to plans rather than past events.

Weekly Bonus

  • Weekly bonus is yet again 20 World Quests runs: 5k Order Hall resources that I desperately need. It perfectly responds to my reputation goals, so I’ll be running them like hell.
  • Good thing: there is also a reputation bonus for world quests.
  • Good thing:  with flights they are completed so easily
  • Bad thing: it will take my time from running LFRs. And I’m largely ignoring them lately: could be barely a single Nighthold run for one alt during the week.

New Campaign Quests

  • This week Khadgar gives you a campaign quest to gather 2500 shards.
  • Don’t worry: he’ll give 2499 back to you upon completion.
  • And this is it, you just get shards for him this week. No story coming.
  • I’ve collected them via a wyrmtongue cave chest: I got lucky to open the very first chest with 2139 shards and a toy.
  • If you don’t know about this cave yet, do the goblin archaeologist quests in Broken Shore asap.
  • There’s also an Alliance-only questline available. For a start you need to get the Varian’s compass in the water where he dropped it during the Legion cinematic. Locating it is not easy, the quest is not seen on the map, and you don’t get any directions. So follow the cinematic directions: you need to go in the sea where the Alliance ships crashed.
  • There’s a small separate piece of land in the sea – follow the red arrow and search underwater:

Shinies

  • Hexen got one more orange shiny today for Subtlety spec.
  • That makes it three legendaries in her bags, and she can wear just one.
  • I hate them. I seriously do.
  • They are not replaceable, because, oh wow, these are boots, wrists and shoulders
  • One is clearly meant for Subtlety and the other for Assassination. If I want to switch them with my spec, I have to wear three more items from Nighthold LFR in my bags. Should I save them just in case?
  • I just don’t care. I have no time, need or desire to fuss about these shinies. It just irritates me to large scales that I have three of them, and I can’t put them on. And there will be more coming.
  • Legendaries are a total mess.
  • They are not earned.
  • They don’t make transmog sets.
  • They are not replaceable.
  • They are a large annoyance.
  • And I hate all the GRATZ and saliva floods around them. They are not a good thing, there’s no room for celebration.
  • I don’t want them.

Insurrection

The Insurrection questline in Suramar picks you up from where the Good Suramaritan story ends. You have grown the magic tree, healed the Nightborne from their mana lust with its fruit, and collected enough refugees and withered to prepare for your assault on Suramar. This is also where the elves of Azeroth join the fight.

You may want to complete the storyline on your alts for several reasons. First, it’s a cool story by itself, and it is a lead to The Nighthold raid – actually it explains how and why you get to the entrance. Second, it’s completed pretty fast, with only 10-20 minutes per one of nine steps. Third, it’s immense amounts of artifact power. The final rewards for every step range from 125k to 250k, you get some 25k-65k items in between, and in the end you get the final quest to kill Gul’dan for 750k of artifact power (although you get an achievement before that).

By now I have completed it on nine of my toons, and the rest three will finish it by weekend. It’s perfect timing as the next week we actually will be able to put an end to Gul’dan.

I would write here a storyline summary along with my thoughts and few tips on the best ways to complete the steps. The post would contain spoilers, but it must do so as the post will also serve as my diary page, not just a guideline.

So, Insurrection.

Before every step Thalyssra would ask you to give a mana fruit to permanently heal one more refugee in Shal’Aran. I tend to give them to children :)

Step 1: Lockdown

Your portal to Waning Crescent quarter vanished, and you go for investigation. Oculeth sends you there, and you find a slaughter: the demons and Felborne elves are swarming in the streets, there’s bodies everywhere. The conspiracy was finally discovered and punished. Not your safe haven anymore.

You are charged with the task to avenge the dead and save four groups of survivors, and then you leave the quarter in a boat to find a new safe place for them. Upon very short voyage there’s a watch tower by the bazaar, so it’s your base now – and your portal is set to get to dailies to replace the Waning Crescent one.

When you set the portal, you teleport to Shal’Aran and meet Aluriel who came to mourn Alurin and help our cause. Usher her from the entrance to Thalyssra, and we’re done here.

Tips and thoughts:

  • The first step is very, very fast to complete. There are no difficulties – just avoid the winged demons in Waning Crescent which can see through the mask.  They are easy to solo but long to kill, so it’s an extra annoyance.  

Step 2: Missing Persons

You’re sent back to the new outpost terrace. Just across the water you see a big quarter filled with Felborne and demon jailers. They have chained many Nightborne and prepare to send them as a fuel to Felsoul Hold.

You are charged with the task to go to the jail quarter, put a mask on and show a dusk lily sign to the Felborne guards. You need to recruit five – but some of them are true to Elisande and will fight back. You also need to kill the demons until you get a walkie-talkie crystal to reveal where the prisoners are taken.

Then you go back to the terrace, and the guys make you to chain yourself and play a prisoner to see where the others were taken. They would follow you, then kill your guards upon arrival, and you would save the prisoners and kill the demon in charge while your allies secure the shore.

Tips and thoughts:

  • When going down to the harbor (you do it twice) – use the pink rune by the terrace Shal’Aran portal. It will toss you from the terrace right there so you won’t have to cross all the water on your own.
  • Your trouble here is random almighty. The most annoying part is communicating device drop from demons.
  • Don’t touch the dangerous elite jailers which are quite deadly, it would fall from simple jailers or felhounds too. 
  • You could use your cooldowns for the last eredar “boss” on the shore – he may be dangerous on the long run.

Step 3: Trading Tyranny

Ly’leth informs you that Vanthir was captured, and put in a magic cage for all to see him as a public example. You set on journey with Thalyssra to find three of his most visited sites and click upon his essences-ghosts for Thalyssra to learn his whereabouts.

Then you return ot your outpost terrace, perform a small ritual, and go kill a jailer elf with the help of NPC enforcers to open Vanthir’s cell and feed him a magic fruit. Vanthir’s free.

Tips and thoughts:

  • It’s a very fast-performed step, but logistics are a bit tricky. For essences quest, start from the upper tier traveling there straight from Ly’leth. Then descend to the lower Suramar levels as your final destination will be terrace – close to bazaar point.
  • Don’t use a glider or levitation spells to descend for shortcut: Thalyssra would run on the floor and will aggro everyone on the way. Either make a detour or jump down with a risk of death.
  • The “boss” jailer is easily soloed, you may not even want to avoid his AoE circle. 

Intermission: World Quests

Before you proceed, Thalyssra would ask you to complete 10 world quests in Suramar. 7 simple quests are available every day, so you can complete them in two days – split the amount as you wish (7 and 3, 6 and 4, or 5 and 5).

Step 4: An Elven Problem  

Here you finally see some Azeroth forces taking some action in Broken Isles. Apparently elves took the whole Suramar business very personal – Tyrande even claims it to be her home city, so you are to report straight to Suramar entrance where you meet Vereesa of Quel’dorei, Lady Liadrin of Sin’dorei and Tyrande of Kal’dorei and their war camps. Thalyssra is also present with a party of her unexperienced hobos. And one poor Khadgar is trying to keep them all from ripping each other’s throats. Elves don’t like each other like at all.

The battle is already rampaging in promenade, and they ask you to help. A Blood Elf spy on the left side will ask you to kill a Felborne magician, and a Night Elf spy on the right side will ask you to solve the portal problem – would they please stop summoning the demons? You are also supposed to encourage the fighting rebels (you must kill their foes first to speak to them) and eliminate any 15 bad guys – demons or Felbourne – on your way.

When you solve these problems for the attacking party, you are to kill a dangerous construct, and it’s a group quest… But it’s not That One Quest, just fly to Crimson Thicket, follow the road, and eliminate it. It’s soloed too easily to be even a group-of-two boss.

Tips and thoughts:

  • This step is pretty grindy. I suggest you start from the Blood Elf part on the left, then proceed to the right, but it’s up to you. 

Step 5: Crafting War

This part is both hilarious… and not. First, there are problems in elven camps. There are Shal’dorei spies everywhere, so you are given a detector device and finally avenge the whole “An illusion! what are you hiding?” thing. Second, the elves are trolling each other, and you are to remove those items from the camps. By the way, they are clever and awesome, I would leave them there :)

For the next part you are to battle-harden the Nightborne useless troops and provide them some weapons. You board a hippogryph right in the camp (please don’t go to Val’sharah on your own!) and pillage the Black Rook Hold. Here you have to find 5 tactics books spread all over the place, kill any 20 mobs – these are common mobs – and set 3 beacons for Oculeth to teleport warfare back to you camp.

Then there’s a small story when Oculeth teleports you and Valtrois in a cave in Azsuna – you need to tap more leylines to feed all refugees while there’s still some lack of magic fruit. Stellagosa confronts you in elf form, but due to your presence they become friends, and then they work with Valtrois while you protect them. Their dialogues are just amazing, it’s a perfect comic relief in the middle of a grave campaign. Probably my favorite part in all the Insurrection.

Upon your return, you have to kill a nasty but easily soloable Pit Lord outside of Shal’Aran.

Tips and thoughts:

  • Not to get lost in Black Rook Hold, first clear the whole half-circle length of ramparts you’re landing at, and then descend down to the grounds at the other end.
  • When fighting a pit lord in Meredil, focus only on this demon. When you kill it, the quest will be complete. Doomguards are busy with your Nightborne troops and will respawn, so killing them is useless. 

Step 6: March on Suramar

So, finally all is settled between elves (for now), and Nightborne are ready to fight. You need to struggle your way like an arrow up to the Nighthold gate.

In this scenario, different elf troops would join you in battle step by step, gradually clearing the path. The scenario mobs hit pretty hard, so be careful not to aggro too many at once.

When you’re there, Khadgar and Oculeth set your brand new Shal’Aran teleport, and your allies are here looking at The Nighthold main gate.

Tips and thoughts:

  • The main danger here is game mechanics. Bad coordination between you and helping elven troops may lead to some of the foes left untouched, and you won’t be able nor to aggro them neither proceed. Then you will have to start over. Make sure you tag every mob while your allies are still near. The trickiest part is when Night Elves and Tyrande attack a pack near fountain: tag the Shal’dorei mages on both sides asap.
  • The reward here is a 855 relic for your artifact weapon, so it’s great chance to improve your off-spec weapon if you wish so. Re-spec to the specialization you need before giving in the quest , and you will have a choice of 3 relics suiting each slot.

Intermission: Order Hall Missions

Khadgar thinks that you shouldn’t forget your followers. Go to your Order Hall, complete five missions while the elves are preparing some artillery, and then you may proceed.

Step 7: Elisande’s Retort

And so, the mighty combined elven force and their artillery approach the gate of The Nighthold. But Elisande has prepared a small trick: after a proper scorn speech she unleashes the power of the Nightwell and traps the troops in a sort of time capsule (Nightwell is about time magic – both Chronomatic Anomaly and Elisande bosses in the raid are fought near The Nightwell and play with time during their encounters). Khadgar and the hero (you) then go in a bubble to rescue one of the leaders: Liadrin or Tyrande depending on your faction.

Then you remember that Ly’leth was not sending you her spy messages for a while, so you go to a secret spot to retrieve them. Not so secret, if you ask me. Well, it appears that she tried to warn you about the main entrance, but she was discovered and taken by the guards.

Valtrois suggests you go to the Sanctum of Order – there’s a sewer backdoor to The Nighthold, so you teleport there and find a barrier which is fed from your own leylines (it’s The Nighthold raid entrance). Ascend back to the portal, teleport back to Shal’Aran, and fly to Crimson Thicket and Kel’Balor leyline feed to complete Valtrois’ investigation: you need to kill two simple mobs there.

Tips and thoughts:

  • On the time capsule quest, take out the chronomatic elementals by small portions – they are dangerous when many. 
  • When sent to retrieve messages, just walk through the haven portal room to the bridge on the other side, jump from the bridge to the water to the right and approach the spot from the big water space. There’s a convenient small stair right to the message pavilions.  

Step 8: As Strong As Our Will

They took Ly’leth! When you teleport to her premises (I mean, why if she’s already taken?), a new First Arcanist’s hologram appears and she mocks Thalyssra for playing with the withered. The Felborne guys kill the withered and attack Thalyssra, so she retreats, leaving you to save the remaining Ly’leth’s servants in her manor because slaughter is in progress – when done, you’re back to Shal’Aran.

Withered are vulnerable to fel, so you go to Felsoul Hold to train them – much like your daily there. All you need is to destroy 3 crystals and then a power source – just order withered to do it while you clear the occasional mob on the way.

Oculeth sends you to the Terrace of Order for one yet flashlight game (survey). Then he sends you to his workshop where you teleport in a small room and retieve the data he needs – there’s a convenient teleport home when you’re done there.

Now your telemancy and withered seem ready – you fly to Crimson Thicket to fight a Felborne camp. 8 mobs and a boss.

Tips and thoughts:

  • Ly’leth’s mansion part is very dangerous. Mobs are plenty and they hit hard, and there are very fat roaming elites too. Don’t be in a rush here, take them one by one. 
  • When training withered, you need the place where Ana-Mouz world boss spawns, not the daily quest area! The first crystal is exactly in her pool, the second is a bit to the north and the third is a bit to the south. When you did the southern, you take few steps and you’re at the gate to the Power Source.
  • When on survey quest, just go to the quest area on the map, kill just one mob and stand there using your flashlight on cooldown. No need to move anywhere.
  •  When at Oculeth’s workshop, first click at a small elemental portals, then fight them. Don’t linger too much – they will respawn in a while even if you closed the portals.
  • What you need to learn in Felborne camp near Crimson Thicket is that you must summon withered on cooldown. And the “boss” here hits very hard – use your cooldowns. 

Step 9: Breaking the Nighthold

The final chapter is finally final. But it’s not just a scenario: first you’re sent to grind three leyline feed rooms to set disruptor devices to take off a barrier of The Nighthold secret entrance. You fly to Crimson Thicket and clear Elor’shan, Kel’balor up to the farthest corner (you know where these feeds are if you did Leyline Bling) and a brand new Tenoth’aran which is close to Kel’balor entrance.

Finally everything is ready, and Oculeth sends you to the Sanctum of Order area. The enemies knew about your arrival, but you just gradually clear your way through scenario until you finally kill the First Arcanist Andaris, and the Nighthold secret entrance (raid entrance) barrier is lifted. You get Insurrection achievement, and Khadgar sends your silly loot-heads to do the job of getting to Gul’dan and killing him while the others will follow :)

Tips and thoughts:

  • I suggest Elor’shan – Kel’balor – Tenoth’aran order, then you hearth out of the last one.
  • Tenoth’aran entrance is just two steps to the west from Kel’Balor. You need to find the spiders on the surface – then you know you’re here. Tenoth’aran is all about spiders, spiders everywhere.
  • When in scenario, summon withered all the time on cooldown. When they are supposed to take off a shield from Andaris, make sure the mobs attack you and won’t touch your junkie pets with their AoE.
